The ADAPT-ED: adaptive trial of emergency department interventions for back, is a multi-centre, double blind, multi-arm multi-stage, non-inferiority, randomised controlled trial. This is a highly efficient trial design that will allow the investigation of four non-opioid medicines for back pain in the emergency department against a common opioid control.
