Our Team

The MUSculoskeletal Intelligence and Care (MUSIC) Registry captures and stores routinely collected electronic medical record data from patients presenting to the emergency department and, where applicable, admitted to hospital, with a principal discharge diagnosis of a musculoskeletal condition or injury.

The registry is established as a research database and an interactive dashboard to:

• support future research benchmarking the quality, safety and equity of musculoskeletal care in the hospital setting,

• evaluate the effectiveness of new interventions and models of emergency care, and

• inform clinical decision-making and health service planning for hospital musculoskeletal care.

Data on eligible patients are retrieved from hospital electronic medical record and administrative systems, including Cerner, EDWARD, Costing, and Enterprise Data Lake (EDL). Medical record data are collected across seven domains: patient and encounter identifiers, patient demographics, emergency care characteristics and diagnoses, inpatient care characteristics and diagnoses (if patients are subsequently admitted to hospital), direct hospital healthcare costs, non-medication clinical orders (such as imaging and laboratory tests), and medication administration orders.

The registry is jointly owned and overseen by Sydney Local Health District and the University of Sydney.
