Dr Venisa Wing Kwok

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Dr Kwok is a physiotherapist and an early career researcher at the Institute for Musculoskeletal Health, Sydney Local Health District and the University of Sydney. Her research focuses on promoting healthy ageing, enhancing independence across the lifespan and preventing fall in midlife and older adults.

She completed her PhD in 2024 from the University of Sydney. She has published in top-ranked journals (e.g., British Journal of Sports Medicine, JAMA Network Open, Age and Ageing), leading to media outlet attention (e.g. Washington Post, NTDNews, 9News). She has also contributed to reviews commissioned by the WHO and worked in one of the working groups for the development of the World Falls Guideline.  She has been invited to speak at local and international networks/conferences (e.g. Asia-Pacific Fragility Fracture Network Congress).

  • Scoping review of international guidelines on physiotherapy care and rehabilitation after fragility fracture

  • Comparative analysis of human and machine-learning approaches to identifying clinical trials in the field of physiotherapy (PEDro)

  • Home exercise and falls in community-dwelling older adults: individual participants meta-analysis

  • Leisure physical activity and falls in men: analysis using Concord Health and Ageing in Men Project (CHAMP)

  • Exposure to physical activity and fall risk in community-dwelling adults aged 60+ years: a secondary analysis of CHAnGE trial

  • Cochrane reviews – intervention for prevention of falls in older adults in care facilities and hospitals (led by Dr Sue Dyer)

  • Mediation analysis using CHAnGE (Master student Callan Lavery, whom Prof Cathie Sherrington and Prof Anne Tiedemann supervise)

  • Pragmatism in fall prevention exercise trial in community-dwelling older adults: secondary analysis (Honours project: Dan Nguyen, whom Dr Marina Pinheiro supervises)
